New project to plant 20’000 trees in Kakamenga Forest in West Kenya
These 20 hectares will directly benefit over 100 farmers to improve their local environment with more rain and enhance their household livelihoods through economic empowerment improved food security, improved water quality. This is likely to trickle down to over 2500 community members in the targeted households.
This forest area has been cut down in the 1970-80’s due to high poverty and poor cooking technics based on wood. This area has now improved cooking technics but the trees haven’t recovered yet off the cutting and would need very long to bring back naturally a forest and the rain that used to exist in this region.
Draught is a real threat since a few years for local farmers and villagers. It is crucial to rehabilitate this forest to average up annual rain falls locally.
The project will integrate and mainstream the conservation of the following endangered trees species
